The miles of sandy beaches are perfect for horse-riding, walking and fishing. It's a watersports mecca due to the fact that the beaches face every direction so there is always a 'perfect spot' to suit whatever swell and wind direction prevails. The Professional Windsurfers association has hosted three windsurfing events here with all the top windsurfers in world competing. Local and Uk events run on a regular basis.

Boats can be charted from the local pier for fishing trips or to visit 'Illauntannig' one of the Maharee islands with an ancient monastic settlement.

The surrounding mountains, including Mount Brandon, offer stunning climbing, hillwalking and mountain-biking opportunities. The views of the surrounding Kerry countryside are breathtaking on a clear day.
